Unlimited: It’s OK To Ask “Why?”
Oct 1, 2021 1358
You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me (Job 42:3, NLT).
In the Bible story, Job suffers seemingly without cause, and naturally, he asks, “Why?” His three friends, in different ways, all tell Job that he is suffering because he has done something wrong. The solution they give him is that he must confess and repent so that God will bless him.
Isn’t that like the typical answers we give as Christians? Yet God is angry at Job’s friends because they have lied about what he is like (Job 42:7).
The book of Job doesn’t give us the ultimate answers, because we will never have them in his life. However, the book ends with God telling Job all that he can handle, and all that he needs to know. In essence, what God tells Job is that he is much more powerful and much more loving than anyone could ever imagine (Job 38–41).
It’s OK to ask “Why?”
The chances are, simply because you are human, that you are suffering right now. And often, there is no direct relationship between the choices you have made and your present sufferings.
The assurance that God was all-powerful and all-loving was enough for Job. It restored the joy in his life. Shouldn’t it also be enough for us?
One day, we will have all the answers to every question we ever asked. Until then, Christ is enough. – Eliezer Gonzalez
Reflection: Have you ever had a “Job Moment,” when you have metaphorically shaken your fist in frustration and cried out, “Why, God?” I certainly have. These tend to be “make or break” moments in our relationship with God. What was the outcome of your “Job Moment?”
I'm interested in this ministry but I don't know your and didn't know If you are intending to come to my country Liberia to have a breach here, where this ministry is located.
I don't often ask why for myself, but rather for my son. He is not a believer, but it seems to me that the sorrow that happens in his life draws him away from seeking God rather than toward. I guess this is when I ask 'why?'
God bless you abundantly for your strengthening words and encouragement for some of us passing through our Job moment. The Lord continue to give you the grace and wisdom in standing in the gap for people like us standing on the cliff.
I went through this at my mum and Dad's death. But indeed God gave me a great hope that even my mates with parents get jealous of me. God is good all the time
