“But I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me . . . ‘The King should not say that,’ Jehoshaphat replied” (1 Kings 22:8).
I have noticed that the people I am drawn to most, are those who speak well of me; who foresee great things for me. I am much less attracted to persons who tell me the truth about myself. I would be fooling myself if I did not admit that I am in danger of hating such people. Any one is a fool who will not keep one ear open to his critics. To wish harm on those who speak the truth to us is to live dangerously. We should not do it.
