Unlimited: Saved from God’s Wrath

…how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! (Romans 5:9b.)

Since we have now been made righteous before God through the blood of Christ, God’s wrath against sin can no longer find any place in our lives. The word “wrath” is an old-fashioned English word for “anger.”

The reality that even some Christians don’t like to talk about is that the wrath of God is real. But they don’t understand the nature of God’s wrath, because they compare it with the human wrath that they have experienced in their own lives. But you can’t do that. Ultimately, you can’t understand God by comparing him to human beings.

God’s wrath is always against those things that cause you to suffer.

God’s wrath is not like human wrath. Our wrath is typically irrational and selfish. However, God’s wrath is always motivated by his pure and selfless love. His wrath always seeks to rescue and to save the oppressed. Its purpose is always to end suffering. God’s wrath is always against those things that cause you to suffer. His wrath is always against sin.

Paul’s message here is powerful. It is that if God has loved you so much that Christ shed he blood so that you might be justified, how could you ever think that you will ever need to face God’s wrath. It will never happen! If God has justified you, he can make you to stand in his righteousness until the end.

Spiritual Application

How secure do you feel in your salvation? As you trust in yourself, you will feel insecure. The more you trust in Jesus, the more you will feel perfectly secure and at peace.
