Unlimited: Everyone Who Calls on the Name of the Lord

…for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).
The reason why there is no difference between people from different ethnic and religious communities with regard to the Gospel is simply that anyone “who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
It’s easy for us to fall into the trap of thinking that to “call on the name of the Lord” means to call in a detailed and specific way according to our own definition, or that you can only do it properly if you can tick off specific doctrinal formulations, or are living in accordance with the standards of your particular community.
The calling “on the name of the Lord” that Paul envisages here is the heart-felt cry of desperation
Let’s not complicate what the Lord has told us is simple. But just because it’s simple doesn’t mean it’s necessarily easy, because the call that Paul is describing often comes from a place of great brokenness and pain.
The calling “on the name of the Lord” that Paul envisages here is the heart-felt cry of desperation from the one who has finally come to the point of recognising that they absolutely cannot do it themselves; that they need Jesus for their salvation. This is true primarily for their eternal salvation, but also for salvation from whatever oppressive circumstances they may face in life.
Spiritual Application
For many people, sadly, the name of the Lord is the last name on which they will call, and only after they have exhausted every bit of their own resources and every other source of help. Isn’t it better to call first on the name of the Lord?
