Unlimited: Then Serving
Jul 14, 2023 720
if it is serving, then serve (Romans 12:7a).
It is significant that the apostle here mentions the gift of serving immediately after prophesying. While we often consider those who serve to be the least, in the kingdom of heaven they are among the greatest. When the disciples were arguing about who among them was the greatest, and should therefore hold the highest positions in the nation of Israel during the Messianic age,
Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:42–45.)
Serving is a fundamental principle of the kingdom.
Jesus is teaching us here that serving is a fundamental principle of the kingdom. While some people have the gift of serving in a special measure, this gift actually underpins the use of every other spiritual gift. The purpose of every spiritual gift is that it be used in service, as the apostle Peter tells us:
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others (1 Pet. 4:10.)
Spiritual Application
Whether or not you have the gift of serving, in what way do you serve others in the Christian community? How do you serve, for the sake of Christ, those who are not part of your spiritual community?
Thank you for the message. I don’t think if I say that the Gift of Serving is bestowed on whoever the Holy Spirit deems fit. If you are not qualified for the Gift of Serving, I don’t think you can handle it to the glory of God. Reverend, please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you. Good Night. Rowland Helegbe.
