Unlimited: Every Knee Will Bow
Oct 10, 2023 822
It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’says the Lord,‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’” (Romans 14:11).
Paul is here quoting Isaiah 45:23. In his letter to the church in Philippi, Paul shows how this ancient prophecy would come to pass. It would be fulfilled because Jesus came to earth as a man and humbled himself even to death on a cross. It is because of this that God has highly exalted him (Phil. 2:8–11.)
In Isaiah it is the Lord God who is speaking about himself, and in Philippians we see that Jesus is the one through whom the prophecy is fulfilled. This is one of the myriad ways in which the writers of the New Testament reveal that they understood Jesus to be the Lord God Almighty himself.
Every knee will bow. There are no second-class seats at the foot of the Cross.
Perhaps an even more important point for our lives is that every knee will bow, and every tongue will acknowledge Jesus as Lord in the light of the Cross. There are no second-class seats at the foot of the Cross. We dare not judge others as unworthy in the light of Calvary. The blood of Christ puts us all on the same footing. The blood of Christ makes us all one.
In the light of the Cross we all stand equally condemned if we do not accept Christ’s sacrifice. Similarly, in the light of the Cross we are all saved if we accept it.
Spiritual Application
There is be no “economy” class for entry into heaven. There will be no “cheap seats” at the banqueting table of Christ. It is first class all the way for those who trust in the Lord. Take a moment to ponder that and thank God for Calvary.
