“‘What about you,’ Jesus asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’
Peter answered, ‘The Messiah of God,’
Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone” (Luke 9:20-21).
Jesus did not cast his pearls before swine. He revealed who he was to the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well (John 4:25-26), and to his disciples. But because the Jews held to a twisted understanding of the Messiah’s role, he did not openly confess that he was the promised Messiah.
What a tragedy that the very people who were to prepare the world for the coming of the Messiah, chose to be deliberately blind as to who Jesus was. They rejected the Truth in favour of their human interpretation of God’s word.
