Speak to the Mountain – by Eliezer Gonzalez

Sometimes it is hard to stay positive, to speak words of optimism and hope, especially when everything seems to be going against you or when you have been praying and praying but nothing seems to happen. It is too easy to slip into negative thought patterns and language.

Not only does that drag us down, and those around us, but it also drags down your faith. If you have found yourself in this situation, then Jesus has some words for you.

Speak to your mountainAnd Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. 23 Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. – Mark 11:22–24, ESV.

Jesus tells us here that whatever you ask in prayer, you should believe that you have already received it. How are we to understand this? Do we explain it away somehow, or do we accept it just as Jesus said it?

Who is the one who said these words? It is the Heir of All Things:

…[God] has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. – Hebrews 1:3.

The one who tells us that whatever we ask will be done is the Heir of All Things! So how is it that we can have whatever we ask?

He [God] who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? – Romans 8:32

It is because of the victory of the cross that you and I can receive all things. When do we receive them? Notice the tenses of Romans 8:32. When did God give his Son for us all? It has already happened. At what time will God give his children “all things”? The verse says, “with him.” In other words, at the Cross.

Because of the love of Christ for us poured out at Calvary, Romans 8:17 says that those who believe are not only God’s children, not only the heirs of God, but fellow heirs with Christ. And of what is Christ the heir? He is the heir of all things.

We have been given “all things” right now, through Christ. We live in the Kingdom of God right now. We have “all things” as part of the blessings of the Kingdom of God.

We have forgiveness now. We have righteousness now. We have eternal life now. We have “every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 1:3) now. We have “all things that pertain to life and godliness” now. We have “all things” now.

And so Jesus says to us that when we pray, we should believe that whatever we ask for is already ours. Why? Because it is.

This is the reality of living in the Kingdom of God. All that is promised comes to pass. The certainty is ours, guaranteed by the cross and resurrection of Christ.

All we are doing is waiting for God’s time, God’s place, and God’s way. And often what God has prepared for us is bigger and better than we ever imagined! So go ahead… speak to a mountain today!
