Are You Still Blind? – by Eliezer Gonzalez

This is one of the most potentially offensive questions Jesus ever asked! That’s why it is remarkable that He didn’t ask this of the Pharisees, but of his own disciples.
So, how far can you see? Can you see the mighty power of God in your life, and his marvellous provision for you? Can you see how he supplies your every need? Can you see his total victory in your life? How far can your eyes see?
When Jesus fed the four thousand, it made a huge impact on the disciples. They thought that finally Jesus was about to announce himself as the true King of Israel, drive out the Roman occupiers, and end the hunger and poverty once and for all.
It is interesting that as they continued their journey after this miracle, “[t]he disciples had forgotten to bring bread” (Mark 8:14), which was understandable, because Jesus seemed to be able to make bread appear from thin air!
Then Jesus started warn them about the “yeast” of the Pharisees, and the disciples were wondering what he was talking about. “Is it because we have no bread?” they asked one another (v.16.)
Then Jesus said to them,
Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened? 18 Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up? – Mark 8:17–19
This story is all about the things you can see.
Before multiplying the loaves and the fishes, Jesus had asked the disciples,
How many loaves do you have? – v.5.
They looked and counted seven. This story is about what you can see with your eyes. They counted only seven.
But their eyes deceived them. They needed to see with their hearts, and then they would have seen the infinite riches of God poured out for them.
It’s the same with you and with me. Are we still blind? Can’t we see it?
Once we see the truth of the reality of the Kingdom of God, and the riches of His grace, there will never be blindness again!
