The first step towards salvation is to realise that you and I are part of a lost and broken world. These are the two consequences of sin that no-one can avoid.
Sin brings guilt, and guilt means that the connection that God created you to have with him has been cut. You are separated from God. That’s what it means to be lost.
Sin also brings with it broken relationships. When we are separated from God, nothing in our lives works the way it should, especially our relationships. We are broken from the inside out.
Before God can help us, we have to acknowledge and confess our lostness and brokenness.
Jesus Christ is our great Saviour. He is the great Finder of the lost. Jesus said, “I have come to seek and find the lost” (Luke 19:10), He is the great Healer of the broken (Luke 4:18).
When our “lostness” is taken away, and we are put into a right relationship with God, then our brokenness begins to be healed.
However, while we live in a lost and broken world, with broken human natures, that healing will continue, until the Christ comes again and all things are made new.
Until then, we will always need Christ’s perfect righteousness to cover our “lostness,” and his empowering grace to heal our brokenness.
The good news just keeps getting better, because when Jesus finds you, and you cease to be lost, he has already perfectly and abundantly provided for your complete healing and restoration so that you may become the person whom God created you to be. All of this was worked out and provided at Calvary.
And then Jesus equips us do the greatest work of all, to go and announce the good news to our families, friends, communities and nations in this lost and broken world.
