“From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another” (John 1:16).
When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour he comes into your life with several suitcases of blessings. There is the blessing of forgiveness, the blessing of peace, the blessing of joy, the blessing of hope, the blessings of patience, gentleness, and goodness, and the blessing of a purpose for your life.
At the beginning of his Gospel, John has give his readers a reminder of God’s infinity and power and how Jesus Christ is at the centre of the entire Scriptures. Then he writes this short verse of praise. We can sense his gratitude. This is the joy of the Christian life. William Barclay says: “The more we know of him (Christ), the more wonderful he becomes. The longer we live with him, the more loveliness we discover. The more we think about him and with him, the wider the horizon of truth becomes. This phrase may be John’s way of expressing the limitlessness of Christ. It may be his way of saying that the man who companies with Christ will find new wonders dawning upon his soul and enlightening his mind and enchaining his heart every day.”
The longer you serve the Lord Jesus the longer your list of blessings will grow; it is unending. Our gratitude will increase as we dwell in his grace.
