Confidence In The Father

Have you ever felt a lack of confidence? There are so many ways that we can feel attacked on the inside. It isn’t a fun place to be. In these moments it’s easy to just want to retreat, to sink down, and even to give up.

Can you imagine if Jesus had lacked confidence when he was just a boy, speaking to the leaders in the temple? (Luke 2: 46-47). Or in his adult ministry when he blessed 5 loaves and 2 fish to feed 5,000 people (John 6:1-14).

But Jesus never once wavered in his confidence.

Here’s why: Jesus knew that his identity was in the Father, and that knowledge is an unshakeable confidence that he exemplified for us so well during his time on earth. He said to his disciples,

“A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me” (John 16:29-32).

Jesus knew without a doubt that he had been sent by God, and that God was always with him. Jesus knew his mission, and even though there were pressures all around him, he remained constant. Jesus was confident in his Father to do the miracles that he did, and nothing, not even the Cross, was able to shatter his confidence in the Father. The amazing thing about this confidence is that we can have it as well! The Word of God says,

“Do not be afraid or terrified because of them [the enemy, your fears, your weaknesses] for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 32:6)

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Now, that’s a reason to be confident, isn’t it?
