God's House is Built On Love

God’s house is founded and built on love.

We don’t really get many earthquakes in Australia. However, I experienced a medium-sized earthquake when I visited Chile once. It was early in the morning, and I was in the foyer of a company where I was to give English lessons to executives. It was so early that it was just me and the big burly security guard behind the counter. Suddenly everything started moving and swaying around me, with a tremendous noise! I didn’t know how to react, so I just stood there, but the guard threw himself down under the counter, crying out, “Mama! Mama! Mama!”

For a house to be strong, it needs to have strong foundations. God has a house. It’s not a physical building, but it’s where he chooses to live (2 Cor 13:5; 1 Cor 6:19). God lives in his people – the community of believers around the world. He also calls this his “body” (Eph 1:23).

Sometimes we see this house sway a little. Sometimes, when we look at a particular part of it, it doesn’t seem so strong. So, how strong are the foundations of God’s house? We must consider some background here.

In the late 6th century before Christ, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon destroyed the first temple, built by King Solomon, in Jerusalem. The Babylonian king took most of the nobility and educated class to Babylon as slaves. When, after seventy years, they finally returned to their land, they eventually focused their energies on building their temple again. This was to be the second temple, built by Zerubabel.

However, the returned exiles were impoverished. They knew that the temple they would build would have nowhere near the size and riches of the original temple. As a result, the ceremony for the laying of the new temple’s foundation received a mixed response. While some people shouted for joy, others wept aloud (Ezra 3:12.)

God’s house is built on love.

But notice what the priests and the Levites did. As the foundation stone was laid,

With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord: “He is good; his love toward Israel endures forever” (Ezra 3:11, NIV).

God’s house is founded and built on love. Not matter how insignificant this temple may have seemed to them, it was to be the most honoured of all the Jewish temples, since it would host the Son of God, the one who was himself the very source and definition of love. In fact, he is the foundation stone of the temple himself (Matthew 21:42).

Think about your own house. Does it seem small and poor and insignificant? It if hosts the spirit of Christ, it is the greatest palace in the world.

In a more important sense, you are also, in your body and person, the house of God, if the foundation of your life is the love of God through Jesus Christ. It is the same with the church. Its foundation must always be Jesus Christ and his love.

Whatever it is that you attempt to do in your life, remember these words:

For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ (1 Cor 3:11, NIV).

This commentation and study of God's house being built on love, was an inspirational and touching piece of work. It gave me an insight and blessing and better understanding in what our Love for God should be, for him to reside in US.... GOD In turn will be housed in US and through Us, IN EVERYTHING we do and we shall do it with a joyful heart.... Amen
