Step/Week 10, Day 7 – Crossroads and Daily Inventory: Quiet Time with God Testimony
May 6, 2020 1168
“Watch with Me and pray lest the Tempter overpower you. For though the spirit is willing enough, the body is weak” (Mk. 14:38, TLB).
Jesus had asked His disciples to stay alert and awake whilst He went alone further into the darkness of the garden of Gethsemane, to pray. On His return, they were asleep, and today’s words in our verse are what Jesus said to them next.
I see the importance of Jesus’ words here. He’s showing you an example of what to do to defend yourself against temptation. Notice that He doesn’t imply that you won’t be tempted, but that the devil will not “overpower you” with his lies and schemes to try to derail the great progress you’ve made in your recovery. Jesus knows that your “spirit is willing” but He also knows the weaknesses that still lie within you. Those areas where temptation might get a hold of you, and if not helped, you might give in to them.
Prayer is your friend. It’s been my friend for many, many years. I don’t always get it right. I have periods of “stale” prayer. There have been times where I haven’t wanted to pray. Yet, prayer has always been constant in my life, since I started out on the road to my recovery.
I start my day with God. I pray and read my Bible. It is the only way that I can start my day. I give it back to Him and I’m expectant of what He is going to say to me, when I read my Bible. God’s Word is so beautiful to me. I really do love God’s Word. I know I couldn’t live without it. My life would make no sense without it, too, and my recovery would be nowhere near where it is now, if it wasn’t for God’s Word in my life. I treasure my daily, quiet time with God. I look forward to it, each day.
I want to encourage you, if you haven’t already done so, to always make time for God each day. Spend some “alone” time with Him and His Word. Develop a habit of having some quiet time with God. It will help you stay on the right path towards recovery. You need to stay alert and connected to God.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I know that there will be many crossroads for me to navigate on my journey of recovery. Help me to always make the right choice in the direction You want me to go. Enable me to make a daily evaluation of the day You have given me. I pray that You will always speak to me through Your Word. Give me a new passion for Your Word written in the Bible. Help me to develop a daily, quiet time with You. Thank You for all that You are doing in my life. Praise You for where I am in my recovery. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
