Step/Week 5, Day 2 – Admit: Why?
May 6, 2020 1223
“If we say that we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth” (1Jn. 1:8, TLB).
Since our childhood we have probably wanted to know the answer to the question: “Why?” It seems to be inbuilt within us. We seem to have question most things, if not, everything. In a healthy setting and frame of mind this is not seen as a problem. It can actually be quite healthy to question things and not take them at face value.
However, when in the grip of addiction, your present-day setting and mindset may be anything but healthy. If you were truthful to measure your current state mind, today: “Where do you think you would be on a scale of 1-10 (1 being the healthiest and 10 being out of control)?”
I suppose there are many of you thinking: “Why do I need to confess my sins?” Here’s why. Your secrets, sins, and addictions are probably supported by some form of co-dependent relationship(s) and the behaviour that goes with this type of co-dependent relationship. It’s just not a healthy way to live and it’s definitely not how God wants you live. You are only fooling yourself, if you think you have no sins to confess to God. Thinking like this, you are actually refusing to accept God’s truth for your life, and that’s not a good place to be.
You will have probably spent a lot of energy and time over all these months and even several years keeping these secrets and sins hidden from all those who know you. It’s been exhausting, hasn’t it? But you don’t have to live in bondage to your sins, anymore.
By confessing your sins, you will start to see changes in your life, that you never thought was even possible. Yes, there is a long way to go before you’ll reach full recovery, but you have made an amazing start getting to this point. Keep going!

Personal Reflection: Don’t try and fool yourself; you have committed many sins and you need to repent of those sins! Don’t get tripped up with the question: “Why?” Many men and women before you have thought this, and worked through it, eventually confessing their sins and now they are living a life of sobriety. Do you want to join them?
