Life Recovery Devotions StepWeek 4 Day 6 – Spiritual Inventory and Confess Stop the Blame and Start Accepting God’s Forgiveness

“And why worry about a speck in the eye of a brother when you have a board in your own?” (Matt. 7:3-4, TLB).

Unfortunately, most, if not all us, at some time have played the “blame game”. Blaming others becomes a default, defence mechanism, whilst blaming ourselves takes a subtler approach, which can have devastating effects on our lives.

The next letter, which is S, stands for STOP the blame. In today’s Bible verse, we can see Jesus giving a perfect example of what it means not to be judgemental and critical of others, especially when we have the same, if not more, things wrong in our own lives.

We have lived in isolation and secrets long enough, when we were in the full grip of our addictions. It’s now time to “stop”.

The final letter, which is also S, stands for START accepting God’s forgiveness. You have been forgiven! Yet, you might actually find that hard to believe. Our old addicted mindset might kick in: “It’s a trick!” “Why would God do that for me?”

Don’t be fooled. Give God your concerns. He is big enough to deal with them. Let God give you a new perspective of your “forgiven” life. Knowing that you are truly forgiven, you’ll be able to look at yourself in the mirror, without cringing. Also, don’t be judgemental!

This is a new day of opportunities. A God-given day, which He wants you to use to the fullest potential, as you journey together on the road to recovery and wholeness.

Personal Reflection: Don’t play the “blame game” anymore! Let God’s light reveal the truth about who you are in Him. Ask Him to remove any tendency to be judgemental. Accept God’s forgiveness. Thank Him for it, daily!
