Unlimited: Jesus Brings a Little Girl Back to Life

After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat (Mark 5:40–43, NIV).

Jesus arrived at the house of Jairus, where everyone was crying and wailing loudly, mourning his daughter. When Jesus said that the child wasn’t dead, but asleep, they all laughed at him. He did something unexpected.

Some people think that Jesus spoke Hebrew. Although he would have known something of the Jewish language, it wasn’t the main language Jesus spoke daily. That was Aramaic.

And this is one of the instances in the Gospels in which the author wrote down exactly what Jesus said, because he quotes the actual Aramaic words.

Jesus Words Brought Her Back To Life

But what matters isn’t what language Jesus spoke, but the power of his word. When he speaks, the dead wake up.

Death cannot be in the house when Jesus is present.

Did you know that, according to the record of the Gospels, Jesus ruined every funeral he attended? Every time he brought the dead back to life!

Before, the house was full of people crying and wailing. And now, the house was full of people celebrating a reunion with someone whom they loved and whom they thought they had lost.

That’s what Jesus specialises in. He turns sorrow into joy.

Eli’s Reflection: What’s your sorrow? Like Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; only believe.” Take your losses and grief to Jesus. His presence brings healing and power in your life. He wants to be in your home and heart too.
