A Different Kind of Love
I’ve suffered from very low self-esteem in the past. In fact, sometimes, when my wife would tell me that she loved me, I would respond to her with, “Why?” Yeah… I cringe now when I think about it.
When someone tells you that God loves you, it’s easy, somewhere in your heart of hearts, to ask “why?” Because you’re trying to find some reason in your performance to explain why God should love you.
But the Bible tells us that God loved us first, even when there was nothing about us to love.
The love of God is liberating love. It doesn’t depend on your performance, and it always puts you first.
Compared to this, most of the love you find in human relationships isn’t love at all. I reckon much of it is “un-love.” And even the best of it only points us toward the true definition of perfect love: “God is love.”
Remember: He loves you just because he loves.
God loved us first even when there was nothing about us to love.
