A Simple Apology

A Simple Apology

Some time ago, I was chatting online with a friend from our school-days. I’d only recently found him on Facebook.

While we were chatting, he shifted the topic and started apologising for things that had happened decades ago.

You see, I come from a migrant background. Because of that I was given nicknames at school, and pranks were played on me, like being locked in lockers. I used to brush those things off as good-natured teasing. I guess I had become used to them.

My friend was asking my forgiveness for his role in the way I was bullied back them.

The fact that he apologised so sincerely meant that my view of him changed. He grew in my respect. My rather neutral attitude toward him changed so that I now saw him as a person of honour and integrity.

I guess we’d all like to be seen that way, right?

Remember: Don’t underestimate the power of a simple apology.
