Angels Are Awesome, Part 2

[13] And to which of the angels has he ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”? [14] Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation? (Hebrews 1:13-14 ESV)
Yesterday, we saw that angels are awesome because they worship God and deliver His Word. Today, Hebrews 1 and other parts of the Bible give us two more reasons to stand in awe of them — and two more reasons to see the even greater glory of Jesus.

1/ ANGELS MINISTER TO BELIEVERS
Hebrews 1:14 describes angels as “ministering spirits” sent by God to serve those who will inherit salvation. That’s talking about Christians — those who belong to Christ.
Psalm 34:7 says, “The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.” Jesus Himself tells us in Luke 15:10 that there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.
We may not always know how this works. We may not see them. But Scripture says angels are involved in protecting, encouraging, and rejoicing over God’s people. That’s an incredible thought — mighty, holy beings dispatched by God for your good.
2/ ANGELS WILL ACCOMPANY CHRIST’S RETURN
The Bible also shows angels playing a significant role in the final judgment and the Second Coming of Christ.
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 describes that day:
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. (ESV)
When Christ returns in glory to raise the dead, gather His people, and bring justice to the world, the angels will be there. These events will shake creation to its core — and the angels will be His agents in carrying it out.
ANGELS ARE AWESOME… BUT JESUS IS MORE AWESOME
Their ministry to believers is amazing. Their role in the final judgment is awe-inspiring. But angels don’t save us. They don’t reign over us. They point us to the One who does.
The same chapter of Hebrews that tells us angels are “ministering spirits” also shows us Jesus as the eternal Son, the sovereign King, and the One who reigns at the Father’s right hand. If angels are this glorious, how much greater must He be?
So thank God for His angels — but worship and follow His Son. The glory of the angels is only a faint reflection of His.

Praise God for sending His angels to care for His people. Then lift your eyes to Jesus, the One they serve, and give Him your trust and worship today.
