Whatever you do, DON’T settle for mud pies in a slum!
Verse of the Day
John chapter 6 verse 35
“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” (ESV)
What do you hunger for the most in this life?
Material prosperity. Career success. Relational validation. Breathtaking experiences.
But many of the things we hunger for only ever satisfy us for a moment.
In John 6, Jesus multiplied one boy’s lunch to feed over 5000 people — just like God provided manna from heaven in the Old Testament. The next day, the crowd comes back wanting more bread in their bellies. But Jesus offers them something better.
Jesus says HE IS the bread of life. Come to him, and he’ll satisfy your hunger and thirst for eternity.
CS Lewis said this,
“Our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
The good news is… when we come to Jesus, we get Jesus. Not just good things from Jesus, but more of Jesus. In him our deepest longings are satisfied.
So whatever you do, don’t settle for mud pies in a slum. Hunger and thirst for more of Jesus — the one who gave his life on the cross so we could enjoy him as the bread of life.
Like and share so others can see Jesus clearly.
