From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph.
Genesis 39:5
There are things in the life of everyone that are unfair or even disastrous. Joseph found himself a slave in the house of an Egyptian official. How easily—and with what sense of outrage—he could have spent his days festering with indignation at the way his life had turned out. As it happened, God was busy prosecuting his own agenda, and reaping his own purposes out of the hatred and violence of Joseph’s brothers. My circumstances may seem terribly unjust or just plain inconvenient, but I do not have to believe that God has forgotten about me. I can choose rather to trust that God is incorporating me into his gracious plans to bless—even those who take advantage of me and think they own me.
