“This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel” (Luke 2:34).

Simeon, moved by the Spirit, told Mary that her Son, Jesus, was destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel.

Only those who choose to fall from their pedestal of self-exultation will rise to eternal life in God’s kingdom, both now and in the age to come.

Those, like the High Priests Annas and Caiaphas, who refuse to fall from their pedestals of self-exultation, will be toppled from their pillars when Jesus appears in the clouds of the sky. Their fall, however, will not be followed by a resurrection to eternal life.
