Jesus said to the Pharisees and experts in the law, “‘This generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world’” (Luke 11:50).
Why was that particular generation held responsible for the actions of past generations? It was because that generation, the generation that was expecting their God to come and visit them as he had promised in Leviticus 26:11-12, was the generation that took their God – the God who gave their nation significance and purpose – and killed him. This God was the source of all the messages sent to the people through the prophets—the prophets they had martyred.
Similarly, any rejection of the truth by us is a rejection of Jesus who is the source of all truth.
