“A man said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.’ Jesus replied, ‘Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?’” (Luke 12:13-14).
Jesus did not come to Earth to ensure that we were treated fairly. Fairness is not guaranteed to anyone in this life. Why does one sibling enjoy good health all life long, while another is dogged with ill health to the very end? Why does a rich man win millions in a lottery while his poor neighbour, who has to budget every cent he receives, struggles through life?
It’s not what happens to us that counts in God’s eyes, but what we do with what happens to us. Some people, like Jesus, George Washington Carver and Helen Keller, started life with very little but achieved a great deal in spite of that.
