The wayward son said, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him” (Luke 15:21-22).

The wayward son came home with nothing. Even his clothes were tattered rags. But just because he came, his father welcomed him and dressed him again as his son.

We have nothing to offer our heavenly Father except our sinful selves and the Bible tells us that even our righteousness is “as filthy rags”. But all God asks is that we come. He is so thrilled that we want to live in his house with him that he clothes us in his very best robe, the free garment of salvation purchased with the blood of his Son.
