“When you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you” ([tippy title=”Matthew 6:17″ class=”” showheader=”true” href=”” width=”450″ height=”50″]17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,[/tippy]).
Do we fast to earn Brownie points with others, or do we fast to show God that we are prepared to go without food to demonstrate how important our request is to us?
Jesus said, if this matter is between you and God only, he “will reward you.” These words from Jesus’ lips are a wonderful assurance? God won’t ignore your request; he “will reward you.” Your reward may not be exactly what you have in mind, but with hindsight you will confess to God that his reward was by far the better choice.
