“Eating with unwashed hands does not make a man unclean” ([tippy title=”Matthew 15:20″ class=”” showheader=”true” href=”” width=”450″ height=”50″]20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.[/tippy]).
There are many man-made customs in the church that are falsely used to define whether a person is acceptable or not. The Jewish ritual of hand washing before eating was one. Jews did not wash their hands to make them hygienic, they washed them as a symbol of spiritual cleansing.
Some Christians claim that a woman is unclean if she wears jewelry, or a man is unclean if he associates with sinners. Jesus says none of these things enters into a person’s heart to defile it.What defiles a person is not what’s on the outside, but what’s on the inside – in the heart (Mark 7:1-23).
Condemning someone because they don’t conform to your religious customs makes you, not them, unclean.
