Hebrews 6:9–10

[9] Though we speak in this way, yet in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things – things that belong to salvation. [10] For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do. (ESV)

Better Things

After a sobering warning, the tone shifts. The writer assures his readers: “we feel sure of better things – things that belong to salvation” (v9). In other words, the warning wasn’t meant to terrify them into despair but to jolt them awake. He expects to see real fruit in their lives because their faith is genuine.

True salvation always produces fruit. Not perfection, but evidence of God’s work. Better things.

God Is Not Unjust

Verse 10 is a powerful comfort, “God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name” (v10). Others may forget. Others may fail to notice your faithfulness. But God sees.

He sees every act of love, every moment of service, every quiet sacrifice you’ve made for His people. He remembers what no one else remembers. Even if you feel hidden or unseen, you are never overlooked by Him.

Love That Flows from Christ

Notice the order: this love is shown “for his name” in serving the saints (v10). Christian love flows from Christ – not from guilt, not from pride, but from gratitude to Jesus.

And this is gospel fruit: Jesus, the Son of God, gave His life for us in love. He rose in victory and now reigns as our High Priest. Because He loves us, we are free to love others. Our works don’t save us, but they demonstrate that we belong to Him.

Reflection

Where have you felt unnoticed in your service? Take heart – God sees your love. How might His faithfulness encourage you to keep serving in Christ’s name?
