hand-on-crossHas anyone ever tattooed your name on their body? Etching a name deep into the skin is a permanent reminder of enduring love and affection for a person. When a person has someone’s name tattooed onto their body, you know they are more than just a little keen on them. You and I have a God who declares:

See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands… (Is.49:16)

Actually the word picture here is much more than just your name; it is you, all of you that he holds preciously in his hands.

But what is significant about God’s engraving is where it comes from.

Look at the hands of Jesus on the cross and see the nails that have left a permanent mark of enduring love and commitment to you. Christ’s love for you and me led him to be nailed to the cross and to die instead of you. He made a permanent commitment to us. It’s in the Bible,

God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

There is no greater love than that the innocent should die for the guilty.

Jesus couldn’t be more emphatic:

And I shall give them eternal life, and they shall never lose it or perish throughout the ages. And no one is able to snatch them out of my hand. (John 10:28 AMP).

Jesus promised a new life that cannot be forfeited or terminated throughout eternity,

Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned: he has crossed over from death to life. (John 5:24 NIV)

So today go to the cross of Jesus, and there in all His pain and agony, hear Him speak your name. Now that’s a very personal encounter, well and truly beyond just lighting a candle or two and walking away. Jesus says to you,

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
    I have called you by your name; you are Mine.   (Is 43:1)
