How the Gospel Frees You From the Love of Money

Have you heard this saying: “Money is the root of all evil.” Well, that’s not in the Bible at all.

What the Bible actually does say is, “the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil” (1 Tim 6:10).

We hear people rightly talk about the freedom that the Gospel brings, and for some people I’ve met that means financial prosperity. But the Bible doesn’t teach freedom through money, but freedom from money!

In Hebrews 13, the author is explaining what kind of life Christians should lead, and he writes,

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have. (v.5).

The reason why we can be content with what we have is because God has promised to always be with us, no matter what.

At the end of the day, if it ends up being a choice – money’s good, but Jesus is better!
