Jesus is Greater Than Moses — Hebrews 3:3–4

Aug 27, 2025 17

Yesterday, we saw that Jesus is faithful like Moses. But the writer to the Hebrews doesn’t stop there. He makes it clear that Jesus is greater than Moses.

Hebrews 3:3–4

[3] For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honour than the house itself. [4] (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) (ESV)

The Glory of Moses

Moses was faithful. He was chosen by God. He led God’s people. He gave God’s law. He played a central role in God’s household. To Jewish believers in the first century, Moses was the greatest.

But even with all of that, Moses was still just part of the house. He was a servant within God’s people, not the Son over them. His faithfulness was real, but it was still limited.

The Greater Glory of Jesus

Jesus, on the other hand, is worthy of more glory. Why? Because He isn’t just part of the house — He is the builder of the house. Moses served faithfully within the household of God, but Jesus is the one who designed it, created it, and holds it together.

We’ve already seen back in Hebrews chapter 1 that Jesus is the one through whom and by whom all things were made. The Creator enters His creation. The builder steps inside His own house. That’s who Jesus is.

Think about it: when you admire a building, you don’t just praise the walls or the windows. You give credit to the architect, to the builder. Moses is part of the building, but Jesus is the builder. And therefore He deserves greater glory.

Why This Matters

This is more than an abstract truth about Moses and Jesus. It’s a call to worship. It’s a call to give Jesus the glory He deserves.

Moses was a great leader, but he needed forgiveness. Jesus never needed forgiveness. Moses helped establish God’s people, but Jesus is the one who actually builds the household of God. Moses was a faithful servant, but Jesus is the faithful Son.

And so we mustn’t stop short by giving glory to the servant. We give glory to the Son. The one who built the house. The one who is building His church. The one who is building us into His people.

So today, don’t settle for the shadows. Don’t drift back to what’s comfortable or familiar. See Jesus for who He really is: the builder of all things, the one who is worthy of more glory than Moses.

Reflection

Jesus, you are worthy of greater glory. Help me today to see you clearly, worship you rightly, and trust you fully.
