Odd Socks
I have a sock drawer beside my bed that’s completely full of socks. Socks of different colours and types – more socks than I could wear out in years. But everything seems to fit.
The Kingdom of God is like my sock drawer, where the socks of different kinds and colours all seem to fit. The Gospel’s all about inclusion. It’s about a God who has flung the door of heaven open through Jesus Christ,
Jesus said,
But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed…. (Luke 14:13).
That’s exactly what God’s like! And this is his Gospel invitation:
…Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. (Rev 22:7).
The Kingdom of God is like my sock drawer. And God’s invitation says,
“If you’re an odd sock, ‘Come in! There’s room for you!’”
Even if you feel like odd socks, there’s a place for you!
