“Praise God for the Way He Has Been Leading Me!” – Poltava, Ukraine

My father went missing in WWII in 1942. My mother started a new family by marrying a Gagauz (a member of one of the ethnic groups in Moldavia), and they had children. It was there that I first got to know God. It was the time of atheism, and nobody spoke about God in my family. However, everybody in my stepfather’s family was Orthodox, and sometimes I went to church. I began to give more thought to spiritual things.
Later, I enrolled in the Geography and Biology School at the university in Moscow. I was also proficient in German to the extent that I even taught diplomatic officials’ children in German. At that time I travelled a lot. I liked tourism; I even climbed the mountain of Elbrus in 1961.
When I moved to Poltava, I met German Lutherans. I was teaching German, and they came to Ukraine in order to organise church groups. I interpreted for them and began to attend church more regularly.
I was delighted with the scope of knowledge available for the people who were searching
Nevertheless, I had never studied the Bible systematically until I met the evangelists from Australia, GNU’s Eliezer Gonzalez and Philip Rodionoff, while I was attending evangelistic meetings in Poltava in 2015. I was delighted with the scope of knowledge available for the people who are searching. I had never come across such profound Bible investigations. At the meetings, they proved the reliability of Christianity in regards to science, history and archeological studies. I started to attend the church where they had those meetings. I liked the way the believers studied the Bible at the church – each book, chapter after chapter.
It is not long ago that I decided to be baptised. It happened at a Christian gathering where believers – ordinary church members, not pastors – talked about how they served God. They shared their spiritual experiences with God. Hearing about other believer’s service and experiences inspired me to be baptised last August.
I am very excited now! I feel like I’m on top of the world! Praise God for the way he has been leading me!
