Hebrews 10:15–18

[15] And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, [16] “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,” [17] then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” [18] Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin. The Spirit’s Testimony

The Holy Spirit speaks through Scripture to confirm what Christ has accomplished. He quotes Jeremiah’s prophecy about the new covenant—a covenant that Jesus established through his blood.

Two promises stand out in Hebrews 10:16-17. First, God’s law is written on hearts and minds. Not external rules you struggle to keep, but an internal transformation where you actually desire to obey God.

Second, and this is the foundation, “I will remember their sins and lawless deeds no more.”

What God Forgets

Under the old covenant, verse 3 told us sacrifices were “a reminder of sins every year.” Every sacrifice said: Your sin is still a problem.

But under the new covenant, God says: I will remember your sins no more.

Not because God has a bad memory. But because Christ’s sacrifice was enough. The debt is paid. The record is wiped clean. When God looks at you in Christ, he doesn’t see your sin. He sees the righteousness of his Son.

This isn’t some type of progressive forgiveness that you have to keep earning. This is complete, final, and forever forgiveness. Done.

No More Offering Needed

Hebrews 10:18 lands with this profound reality, “Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.”

It’s finished. There’s nothing left to pay. No sacrifice left to make. No religious ritual that will make you more acceptable to God than you already are in Christ.

You don’t stand before God hoping your spiritual performance this week was good enough. You stand before God fully forgiven—right now, permanently, because of what Jesus has done.

Living from Forgiveness

Here’s what this means practically: you’re freed to obey God, not to earn his forgiveness, but because you already have it.

You don’t serve God out of guilt or fear that you’ll lose your standing. You serve him out of gratitude and joy because your standing is secure.

You’re not trying to balance the scales with good works. The scales are settled. Christ paid it all.

The Good News Is…

The good news is that God has forgotten your sin. Every failure. Every rebellion. Every moment you’ve fallen short. He remembers them no more—not because they didn’t matter, but because Christ’s sacrifice mattered more. You are fully forgiven, completely accepted, forever secure in him.

Reflection

Heavenly Father, thank you that you remember my sins no more. Thank you that through Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice, I stand fully forgiven before you. Help me to live today, not striving to earn what I already have, but rejoicing in the forgiveness that’s already mine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
