Safely in Christ – Genesis 6–8

Have you ever wondered what it truly means to be safely in Christ, sheltered no matter how fierce the storm rages outside?
“A male and female of each kind entered, just as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD closed the door behind them… God wiped out every living thing on the earth… The only people who survived were Noah and those with him in the boat.”
— Genesis 7:16, 23 (NLT)
Our journey through Scripture, seeking to see Jesus Christ clearly as He revealed Himself to His companions on the road to Emmaus, now brings us to Noah, the flood, and the ark that carried one family safely through judgment into a new beginning.
Many theologians throughout history have seen in the ark an early foreshadowing of Christ Himself. Just as Noah and his family entered the ark by faith and were sheltered from the flood, so all who place their trust in Jesus are rescued from sin, judgment and death through Him. And just as God Himself closed the door of the ark behind Noah’s family, our salvation in Christ rests not in our own strength, but in God’s faithful keeping.
The ark was more than a boat. It was a place of refuge, safety and salvation in the midst of a world under judgment. In the same way, Jesus is our refuge. Through His death and resurrection, He carries us safely through the storms of this fallen world and into the promise of new creation and eternal life.
Scripture repeatedly speaks of believers being ‘in Christ.’ We are grafted into Him, adopted into His family, and given new life when we receive His offer of forgiveness and grace. Jesus took upon Himself what we deserved so that we might receive what only He deserves — acceptance, righteousness and eternal life with the Father.
To be ‘in Christ’ is the safest place to be — both in this life and in the life to come.
The Good News is…
And the good news is that this is not something we achieve by our own effort. When we place our trust in Jesus, He brings us into His family, and our calling is simply to abide in Him.
