Supermarkets, Politicians, and other Scams

Now they have introduced self-service checkouts at my local supermarket as well!

And of course, they dupe customers into thinking that they are faster because they don’t have to wait in line.

Of course, supermarkets don’t do it for you. They do it for themselves, so they save costs, reduce staff, and reduce the service to you.

And the idea that there is any benefit to you is a fraud as well, because check-out staff are highly experienced in scanning food, and can do it much more quickly than you. So, what happens is that people use the self-service check-out facilities feeling very good that they didn’t wait in a queue, when in reality they spent more time than if they had it the old-fashioned way.

sheep-200x300That is the way of the world. Everyone tries to tell us that this or that is better for us, when all along it is only better for them. Politicians are classics at this. It’s not a win-win; It’s the great swindle.

What Jesus offers you is not like this at all. It cost Him! It cost Him big-time! Where Jesus wins is in having the privilege of having you say “Yes!” to His gift of life, and of having you love Him in return. That’s nothing in return for what He did! The gospel says that Jesus lost so that you could win.

When you feel frustrated at the cynicism of this world, when you are tired of being ripped off, lied to, and cheated, turn to Jesus.

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. – John 10:11
