The Ten Second Test

The poet Robert Southey said, “It is with words as with sunbeams. The more they are condensed, the deeper they burn.”
And that is true of the spiritual truths as well.
Jesus’ most potent message wasn’t a 45 minute sermon. It was just two words: “Follow me.” Those words burned deep.
The 10 Second Test is designed to put the spotlight on what is most important.
Here it is: If you only had ten seconds with someone who needed salvation, what would you say?
Last Tuesday I was walking with Des, and I asked him that same question.
Des paused for a moment, and then he gave his answer:
“God loves you in spite of your failings. He loves you more than you have ever dreamt, more than you could ever imagine. He is more willing to forgive you than you are to sin.”
That’s a summary of the distilled theology and wisdom of more than 50 years studying Scripture, and of more than 50 years of ministry.
We do like to complicate things at times, don’t we?
But what about you? What would you say to someone who needed salvation and you only had 10 seconds with them?
