God demonstrates his love for us in this: While we were still sinners Christ died for us (Rom. 5:8).
The Lord did not say to us, “Straighten yourselves up and live holy lives and I will forgive your sins”. No! God’s word declares, “While we were still sinners Christ died for us.”
God saved his people in Egypt through the blood of the Passover Lamb. After they had been saved by the shed blood, God took them to Mount Sinai and gave them the Ten Commandments to live by.
We are saved, not by what we do, but by what Christ did for us on the cross.
The root of our salvation is what Jesus did for us; the fruit of our salvation is what the Spirit of Christ is doing in us. Salvation comes first; obedience second.
