The Rock On Which We Stand

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? Romans 8:31-39.

Following a reading of these verses we pause and acknowledge we have a sure and solid foundation on which to build our lives – the solid rock – Jesus Christ. We are told we can never be separated from His love. Because if God is for us who can be against us.

So this day consolidate that truth in your heart by meditating on some of the words from the great old hymn:

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ the solid rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

His oath, his covenant, his blood
Supports me in the whelming flood.
When all round my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

Another aspect of Christ’s steadfastness love is outlined in Psalm 52:8

‘But I am like an olive tree
Flourishing in the house of God;
I trust in God’s unfailing love
For ever and ever’.

Love is God’s point of entry into our lives. It is unsolicited, unmerited and unconditional.
The Apostle John, for whom Jesus seemed to have a special love, says in his First Epistle:
We know how much God loves us because we have felt his love and because we believe him when he tells us that he loves us dearly. God is love, and anyone who lives in love is living with God and God is living in him. 1 John 4:16

Today ask Jesus to put His love in your heart so that you may live with Him and He in you.
