The Three Musts
No one likes being told what to do! But what if the outcome was the ability to be happy forever?
In the gospel of John, there are three “musts” that explain what following Jesus is all about.
The first one is that,
The Son of Man must be lifted up.
This first “must” is the most important one, because it’s on this that our salvation depends. The Son of Man being lifted up refers to the Cross of Jesus.
Jesus then explains what is the right response to his saving sacrifice:
You must be born again.
That’s the second “must.” We begin a new life, led by the Spirit of God.
The third “must” is that,
Jesus must increase, but I must decrease (John 3:30.)
As we follow Jesus, the more importance that we give him in our lives, the less selfish we will become. Remember: If you’ve chosen to follow Jesus, the three musts are non-negotiable.
The more importance we give Jesus in our lives, the less selfish we will become.
