Things Unseen Are Eternal — 2 Corinthians 4:18

What you can’t see matters more than what you can.
Verse of the Day.
“…as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18 ESV)
Paul has been building to this.
In verse 16, he says our outer self is wasting away — but our inner self is being renewed day by day. Followers of Jesus are getting an internal makeover.
In verse 17, he describes our afflictions as light and momentary compared to the eternal weight of glory to come, beyond comparison like 50 milligrams vs 50,000 gigatonnes!
So in verse 18, when Paul says look not to the things that are seen — he’s not being mystical or daydreamy. He’s helping us not lose heart when times are tough.
EVERYTHING you can see in this world right now? Transient. It’s temporary. The good things. The bad things. The ugly things. The tough things.
What you can’t physically see — the death of Jesus for your sin, his resurrection, his ongoing work of inner renewal, the glory to come in him — that’s eternal. And that matters more than anything you can see.
The good news is… because of Jesus, you have something beyond the transient to spiritually fix your eyes on. Something that won’t fade. And as you do, even amid the tough times, you need not lose heart.
Like and share so others can see Jesus clearly.
