Garden of Gethsemane Unlimited A Little Further

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground (Matthew 26:39, NIV).

Our Lord in the Garden of Gethsemane is described as “going a little further.” From there he went a little further again and went to Calvary. Then our Lord went a little further, and traversed death and rose from the grave victorious.

It’s because our Lord went “a little further” that you and I have salvation today.

All his life Jesus had gone a little further for the abandoned, the downtrodden, and the lost. But now, from the garden, the Lord Jesus is about to go where no one else had ever gone, and where no one else could ever go.

You are not called to go where Jesus went, nor to do what he did. He has already done it. Your salvation is assured if you trust in his finished work.

However the Lord always invites his followers to “go a little further” also. There will never be a point where you can sit down and think that you have done enough for the Lord. He calls us to grow continually, to “go a little further,” beyond what we may have considered normal, safe, or even appropriate. He calls us to give more, surrender more, and love more.

Jesus went all the way for you. Will you go a little further for him?

Eli’s Reflection: Do you feel like you are being pushed to the limit, or is it just that you just don’t want to go further? However, what is God’s will for you? Are you willing to submit your life to it, and go a little further for the Lord? Put it to prayer.
