Unlimited: We Will Give an Account of Ourselves to God
Oct 11, 2023 731
So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God (Romans 14:12).
In writing this, the apostle Paul is emphasising the importance of our personal responsibility with regard to our thoughts, words, and actions.
When we stand before the judgment seat of God, we will not be able to stand behind our family, our community or our church. Our earthly communities, and even our religious affiliations, will count for nothing.
We are all well-practiced in giving an account of ourselves to others. But that is not enough. We must all give an account of ourselves before God. Elsewhere, Paul tells us that,
…we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ (2 Cor. 5:12.)
We must all give an account of ourselves before God.
because as the wise man wrote,
…God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil (Eccl. 12:14.)
The most hidden things of our lives will be revealed, even the motives of our hearts.
On that day, there will be some for whom the merits of Christ will stand fully in their stead. They will never be ashamed, and their vindication will be sure. The true followers of Jesus will never live in fear of the judgment, because they know that they have already been judged in the person of Christ at the Cross.
Spiritual Application
On the day of judgment, dare you stand on your own record of your life? How much of it are you proud of? How much of it are you willing to retain? Are you willing to surrender it all to Jesus right now, and make him the pride and joy of your life?
