Unlimited: Delighting in the Law of God
Dec 5, 2024 773
For in my inner being I delight in God’s law (Romans 7:22).
The psalmist knew what it was to delight in the law of God. He wrote,
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.. (Ps. 1:1–2.)
Within our inner beings we all delight in the law of God. We affirm it as good and we recognize it as the way we should follow.
Within our inner beings we all delight in the law of God.
Even at the literal, “letter-of-the-law” level, we all know that our lives would be so much better if we lived in a world in which people didn’t kill, there was no adultery, everyone told the truth, and we all got to rest more. However, if this is all we see, then our understanding of the law is tragically deficient. We need to understand the law of God more deeply than this.
It is when we consider the principle of love that underpins the law that our “delight” increases. This is because the law tells us of a perfect world in which we bask in the love of our God, reflecting that love back to him and in every one of our relationships.
