Unlimited: Foreknown and Predestined
Feb 3, 2023 670
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son (Romans 8:29a).
This verse speaks of God’s foreknowledge and of his plan for the lives of his children. God both foreknows and predestines the life of every one of his children.
To foreknow means that God has known you from eternity. To predestine means that God has prepared a wonderful destiny for you.
Foreknowledge and predestination are two different things. Just because God knows what will happen doesn’t mean that it was the way he wanted it to be. Just because he desires a particular future doesn’t mean that it will always end up that way. If that were the case, then you would have to say that God was responsible for Judas’ betrayal, the fall of Adam and Eve, and ultimately all the sin and pain and suffering in the world.
That is not the case. God can predestine a future for you that you may choose not to accept, even though God knew what the outcome would be from the start.
God both foreknows and predestines the life of every one of his children.
The fundamental message of this verse is that God has,
loved you with an everlasting love… (Jer. 31:3.)
What God said to the prophet Jeremiah is also true for you:
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart (Jer. 1:5.)
As a result, your salvation is secure in Christ.
Spiritual Application
Try to think of the years that lie ahead of you in your life. Are you able to trust in Jesus for the road ahead of you, whatever it may bring?
