Unlimited: Full of Goodness

I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge and competent to instruct one another (Romans 15:14).

This is a wonderful encouragement from the apostle Paul to the church in Rome. Take note of how he sees the best in them and builds them up. Paul is doing precisely what he tells others to do. He wrote to the Thessalonian church:

He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing (1 Thess 4:10–11, NIV.)

Take note of how he sees the best in them and builds them up.

Notice that the reason why we are to encourage one another and build each other up is because Christ died for us. The Cross should both motivate and flavour every relationship and every interaction we have with one another.

It is important to note that the knowledge to which Paul refers here is not doctrinal knowledge. It’s the knowledge of how to treat one another and love one another better.

Paul saw the best in others. So too, we are to do.

Spiritual Application

Paul wrote on the topics that he addressed to the church in Rome because there were problems and divisions within the church. Read verse 14 again. Consider how gently and lovingly Paul wrote to the church in Rome. Is this how you communicate with those with whom you might disagree?
