Unlimited: God’s Payday

God “will repay each person according to what they have done” (Romans 2:6).

This is a fundamental truth of existence. What you do matters. What you do will determine what you receive from God. This is the truth that Paul articulates here. It agrees with what the apostle also wrote to the church in Corinth, that,

we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad (2 Cor. 5:10)

Payday. This is simply the law of cause and effect. However, there is a logical question that must be asked. How does this agree with the Gospel, which tells us that our reward is not according to our works, but according to grace?

What Will You Receive from God on Payday

What we need to understand is that Paul hasn’t got to the Gospel yet in his letter. He is simply explaining the reality of life apart from Christ.

Christ’s parable of labourers in the vineyard illustrates God’s payday in terms of the Gospel (Matt. 20:1–16.) It tells you that if you have accepted his invitation, it doesn’t matter how much or for how long you have worked, you will receive a full reward. Without Jesus, your wages will be death (Rom. 6:23). With Jesus, you will receive eternal life.

Spiritual Application

How do you view the topic of the judgment? Is it in a positive or negative way? Why? What could that reveal about how you understand the Gospel?

I've received the verdict already by believing in my Lord, Jesus Christ! See the Gospel of John. Good news indeed!, as Des would say.

There is nothing to expect except to reap what we sow. Every worker shall recieve wages of what he/ she was given. That day shame will over take man kind for disobidience and they will repent at too late hour yet they shall not be forgiven. Let us make our ways right before the lord before it turns late for us repent.
