Unlimited: The God of Peace
Dec 19, 2023 638
The God of peace be with you all. Amen (Romans 15:33).
Before the apostle Paul commences his final farewells in his letter to the church in Rome, he ends the main part of his letter with this beautiful yet simple benediction:
“The God of peace be with you all.”
Long ago, the prophet Isaiah had written that the result of righteousness would be peace:
…the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever (Isa. 32:17.)
It is the apostle Paul in his epistle to the Romans who explains how righteousness has come into the world, so that,
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 5:1.)
“The God of peace be with you all.”
God imputes the righteousness of Christ to the believer, and as a result, we have peace. This peace is therefore unlike any peace that the world can give. Jesus said,
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid (John 14:27.)
This is a peace that will keep you unwavering in your faith in a world of trouble:
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:7.)
Spiritual Application
None of us will have perfect peace in all things that relate to this world. But we can have peace with God, and our conscience can be at peace with others. And as we walk more closely with the Lord, our peace will grow in every area of our lives. In what aspect of your life do you need more peace? Read the devotion again and ask yourself whether you have discovered the true source of peace.
