Unlimited: The Only Way to Heaven
Oct 7, 2019 1897
Very truly I tell you, youwill see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man (John 1:51, NIV).
The ancients believed that the gods lived among the starry heavens and on the peaks of the highest mountains. If only humans could climb high enough, they might reach the gods and learn their mysteries. The story of Jacob’s dream of a ladder that reaches up to heaven (Genesis 28:12) is an echo of a common theme in the stories of antiquity.
This idea was reflected in every aspect of the ancient cultures, including in ziggurats and the first stepped pyramids. This idea of a “ladder to heaven” has been central to the mystical aspects of most, if not all, religions on the planet.
Why is this yearning for a lost connection with the divine such an innate part of humanity?
In the very first chapter of the Gospel of John, Jesus announced himself to Nathanael as the ladder, the only way by which humanity could be connected with heaven (John 1:51).
He is the only one who can satisfy the most profound desires of humanity, and the deepest yearnings of your soul.
Through the Cross, Jesus Christ has connected his life with yours. If you have accepted his gift, then right now you have perfect access through his blood to heavenly places that could only have been dreamed of before.

Eli’s Reflection: Read Genesis 28:10-17. That’s what Jesus is referring to in John 1:51. Can you work out why?
I would to become a member and join the company of those spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.
